Course exemptions

MD program - Course exemptions regulation

Students who are seeking exemption from courses at the Medical University of Lublin must adhere to the following, (submission of an application does not guarantee any exemptions):

1. Students must submit the application for exemption addressed to the Dean of a given Faculty 2 weeks after the start of the academic year at the latest. The application should list the subjects a student is seeking exemption from as well as the corresponding subjects completed at prior schools being a base for exemption. Students should submit the following documents along with the application:
- official transcript of grades from the school attended prior to admission to MUL
- official copy of the syllabi with the corresponding courses from schools attended prior to admission at MUL.

2. Applications which are incomplete or submitted after the given deadline, will not be processed.

3. Applications referring to the courses which meet the following criteria will be qualified for further processing:

  • the course must be completed at a university or a college with premedical studies (any educational institutions of a lower category, such as high schools will not be accepted);
  • the course must be completed within the medical field;
  • the course must be completed no more than 5 years prior to admission at MUL, with respect to the date of application;

4. Applications qualified for further processing will be assessed by the appropriate academic teachers on the basis of the following criteria:
- the contents of the course syllabi and its learning outcomes must be congruent with the ones operative at MUL;
- the credit points of each course must be of corresponding values with respect to the credit points at MUL;

5. The decision regarding exemption is taken by the Dean on the basis of the documents and assessments submitted by the teachers of the given subjects.

6. Exemption is not a base for admitting the student to a higher year.

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR COURSE EXEMPTION?

1. Read the Dean’s Office regulations on course exemption to get familiar with the criteria.
 
2. Fill in the application to the Dean, including:
- Name of the course at MUL you want to be exempted from;
- Name of the course from the previous school, based on which you seek exemption
 
3. Attach all the necessary transcripts and syllabi (make sure they meet all formal requirements)
 
4. Submit the signed application along with the attachments to the Dean’s Office maximum 2 weeks after the registration (applies only to the 1st year students) or 2 weeks after the start of the academic year the latest.
 
5. Once your application is examined by the appropriate course coordinators and approved by the Dean, you will be informed by the Dean’s Office about the final decision.

You are obliged to attend all courses until you receive the final decision.

The transcript shall include grades, the number of hours per semester per course, as well as the number of credit points. The syllabi shall include a detailed description of the course, final assessment form (exam, pass with grade etc.). The syllabi must correspond to the academic year in which a given course was taken.
