The Academic Choir
The Academic Choir of the Medical University of Lublin is made up of students and staff from all faculties of the Medical University of Lublin, as well as enthusiasts from other Lublin universities, and has been under the direction of Dr. Monika Mielko-Remiszewska for 20 years. They are a group of friends who “by the way” sing awards and prizes - the most important are: Silver Diploma at the 4th Concorso Corale Inernationale in Riva del Garda (Italy) in 1996, 1st place at the 9th Myslenice Festival of Carols and Pastorals in 2001, Grand Prix at the 3rd Mazovian Gaudeamus Festival of Academic Choirs in Warsaw (here also an honorable mention for the best conductor) in 2004, 1st place at the National Festival of Religious Music Cantate Deo in Rzeszow in 2004 and Silver Diplomas in two categories: Main and Musica Sacra at the 47th International Festival of Choral Song in Międzyzdroje in 2012.
The choir's repertoire is very diverse. The singing medics perform religious and secular, early and contemporary music, a' cappella works and great vocal and instrumental works. They perform with the Lublin Philharmonic Orchestra (C. Orff - Carmina burana, M. Musorgsky - Boris Godunov, F. Nowowiejski - Quo vadis, K. Szymanowski - Stabat Mater, K. Debski - Poem on the City of Lublin, Verdi - Opera Gala, G. Puccini-Tosca, P. Tchaikovsky - Eugene Onegin, G. Holst - Planets, W. A. Mozart - Requiem and Great Mass c), collaborate with the Rzeszow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra in Zamosc (Italian Opera Night and The Best of Rubik) and the Polish Army Concert Orchestra. In 2012, at the invitation of the Musical Theater in Lublin, the choir co-performed the opera Nabucco by G. Verdi. The event took place in Lublin's Globus Hall for an audience of over four thousand people.
With financial support from the University authorities, the choir has participated in music workshops, festivals and concert tours in the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, France, Germany, Spain, Croatia, Ukraine and Lithuania.
It has recorded three CDs - Carols Sung by the Choir of the Medical University of Lublin (2001), Musica Ecclesiae Nova (2008) and MedyKolędy (2010).
The Academic Choir of the Medical University is open to new members. It invites, especially UM students and employees, to rehearsals, which for years have been held on Mondays and Thursdays (7 pm), at the choir's headquarters - the Music Carpentry Shop at 8 Chodźki Street.
