Volunteer Center of the Medical University of Lublin

The Volunteer Center of the Medical University of Lublin was established in July 2014. The first supervisor of the organization was Prof. Marta Makara-Studzinska, MD, PhD, while currently students are supported by Prof. Marzena Samardakiewicz, MD, PhD. Any student, doctoral student and employee of the Medical University of Lublin can join the Organization.

Members of the Volunteer Center support nationwide events while directing their own local initiatives. They often cooperate with student organizations of Lublin universities, thus promoting the idea of volunteering among the academic community. Volunteers are also willing to cooperate with external organizations providing assistance to those in need.

Cyclical activities of the Volunteer Center include:

  • On duty at the University Children's Hospital
Volunteers divided into smaller groups accompany Smaller and Bigger Patients during their treatment and long-term stay in the hospital. They animate leisure time, enable parents/guardians to go out for lunch, shopping, walking, etc. They help staff with feeding, changing, bathing the little ones, play games with the older ones, help with homework.
  • Cake fairs
Most often before the holidays, Volunteers set up tables with the sweets they baked at the Anatomicum College and the Medical Simulation Center. During the pandemic, due to sanitary and epidemiological restrictions, “Sweet Packs” can be ordered at the fair. The funds collected in this way have already been used, among other things, to pay for the home rehabilitation of a patient cared for by a group operating at USzD, and to fulfill the statutory goals of the Brotherhood of Charity of St. Brother Albert in Lublin.
  • Szlachetna Paczka
Volunteer Center selects families (2-3), organizes the collection of products, makes purchases with the collected funds, packs and delivers the packages to the warehouse. The action is always joined by other student organizations, doctoral students and employees of the University of Lublin. This activity is supported each year by the JM Rector of the UM of Lublin.
  • Collection for the shelter in Krzesimow
Several times during the academic year, food, blankets, beds, toys, etc. are collected into boxes set up in the university buildings.
  • The Musical Medical
Volunteer Center is responsible for selling tickets in the form of bricks and the funds raised in this way have already gone to the wards of the Care and Education Institution in Kijany, among others.

  • WOŚP at the Medical University of Lublin
A very demanding and rewarding initiative. Volunteers are responsible for: setting up the collection, promoting the action in the media, acquiring the auction items, contacting the Exhibitors and Bidders, developing the text and graphic layer of the posts, closing and summarizing the auctions, controlling the timely payment of contributions, compliance with the rules by those participating in the event, closing the collection, coordinating the handover of auctioned items and conducting workshops, sending out thank-you notes. In the first edition, we managed to raise as much as PLN 42,053!

  • Medical Volunteers
Volunteers are engaged in a variety of activities resulting from the emergency need for additional support in the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic:

     - On-call at the Department of Pediatric Hematooncology, Oncology and Transplantation

A select group of volunteers accompanies stranded patients during their stay in the Department (due to the increased risk of infection, visits to patients by their relatives     have been severely restricted).

     - On-call service at the Regional Center for Blood Donation and Haemotherapy in Lublin

Volunteers are the backbone of the call center for potential donors of recovery plasma. They answer questions, carry out pre-qualification according to the guidelines; contact multiple donors of deficient blood groups; if necessary, they are directed to other departments of the RCKiK as support for employees, e.g. in archiving documents.
